1st gen LS400
Hi guy and not forgetting the ladies that are with us as well, i am in the middle of a full suspension rebuild to correct the shocking handling on my ls400. To be honest i scared the living dobury out of myself. I have owned the car for about 2 months now and at motorway speeds the car would follow all kinds of ruts and bumps and needed massive steering correction to avoid a serious crash. Braking was another horror that was a cause for concern.
I stripped the arms from a salvage car that had been totalled in a rear shunt
and rebushed all the arms with daizen poly items to cut down the off road time. Then i stripped the upper and lower arms off my car and this is when i found the cause of my problems. The near side arm was from a 2nd gen car and the lower ball joint was flopping about like a floppy thing. i contacted the previous owner and i he told me that he hit a kerb stone last year and had a mate put a new arm on the near side, but it never felt quite right after. the tracking was so far out that the tyre was starting break the tread up and the camber was i guess, just that a guess!!!.I have now got the correct arms bushed up now with poly bushes and have started to re build the suspension Then the car will go up to a company called wheels in motion in bukinghamshire for a full geometry check and ajustment including camber set. then i hope the car will be as people describe it A MAGIC CARPET RIDE. Best regards to all in the usa on this most informative forum. Gary.
