2nd gen with 241,000 miles is what I went with. The body is beautiful. I can fix the mechanicals, as long as the car looks good I don't care. I'd have to do all the same work to a 1st gen anyway, maybe more, because the 1st gens are getting really old now
Ultimately, I ended up with a 1995 2nd gen, but that was mainly because of price. I think the key is finding a car / previous owner / dealer you feel comfortable with and that will accept a fair price for the car.
