93 LS400 starter clunk noise
Recently had plugs, wires, timing belt, starter, ball joints and upper control arm replaced on 245K 1993 LS400. Now every third or fourth turn of the starter the car starts but the starter (or something) clunks (knocks). They replaced the starter and checked the timing alignment...hearing this is common on 200K LS400's and is not fixable.....Any help out there?

I personally have heard this clunk about every couple of starts, too. My 93 is in the shop right now, it has 180k miles on it. They're doing a valve adjustment, the tech said the valve clearances being off can cause the cam shaft to slap sometimes giving this clunk effect. Maybe this is the correct route? Who knows...if you find out, lemme know.

Did the valve adjustment help? My problem still exists, we're kind of scratching our heads right now, possible chipped teeth on flywheel from new starter install???
