Silverstar halogen vs xenon?!?
I am trying to decide weather to spring for the silverstar low beam replacements or a piar of xenon lights from my local motorsports store? What do you guys think in terms of brightness of the two or just any input would be great thank you.

I had a siliverstar 9005 converted to 9006 and it looked really good http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm
but it's still hallogen, compare to my friend's HID do not even come close so last March bought my self a HID kit and love it and didn't pay arm and a leg for it.
Something to think about.

SilverStars are probably the best halogen alternatives next to the true HIDs. I have the SilverStars in my GS and an after-market HID in my RX. The SilverStars are not as bright as the HIDs, but they are one of the whitest halogens on the market (Razo is the other), close to the HID. A good altnernative if you don't want to spring $400-500 on HIDs at 1/10 of the cost. I wouldn't get the Xenon after-markets bulbs and risk frying your wires.
My two cents.

Wow I was very happy with the performance of my silverstars in my GS. The only thing I don't like is in the day you see a bit of purple light making them look like those fake hid high wattages bulbs, but at nite you don't see any of that. Just bright light!!!

I put a pair of OSRAM Silverstars (euro-spec) in my '97 ES last week, and am very happy with the performance. Light is a touch whiter than a regular halogen, and they definitely put more useable light out onto the road. The light may not be as "sharp" as a HID setup, but for $40-50 a pair it's a great deal. Significant improvement. Extremely satisfied. Relaxed eyes / zero strain during night driving.
Also, I've read elsewhere there is a faint, visible blue tint to the Sylvania Silverstars (US spec), don't know if this is accurate. No visible tint on the OSRAMs, though.

Mr. Mollari is correct. The Euro-spec Osram Silverstars are a high output, uncoated halogen. They probably appear whiter due to their higher output.
The US-spec Sylvania Silverstars have a faint blue-violet coating used to remove the yellower portion of the light. So, even if the bulbs are higher output than normal, the yellow light lost means they're not significantly brighter than stock. That being said, I use them, as they're well-made, proper wattage, completely legal, put good light on the road, and do look nice in the projectors in my '96 ES.
