Default Headlights problem

I bought this car new in 2008 and now I am having an intermittent problem with my headlights... Sometimes they go off when I open my car door... Sometimes they stay on when I open my car door and NEVER GO OFF ! They never seem to stay on for a minute and then go off... If they stay on, they stay on... I took the car to a dealer who checked all of the switches on all 4 doors and said they all worked OK... I still have the problem... What Now?

You shouldn't have this problem if they are on auto.

However, let's say you parked your car and turned off the engine. The lights are on. When you open the door, they will turn off. However, if you turn them off, then on WHILE THE IGNITION IS OFF, and expect them to turn off when you close the door, nope. That won't work.

But if that's not the case, reset the entire car- pull the battery for ten minutes, see if that fixes it.

If you bought the car new, they should have asked you to fill out a "LPS" form, that asks you how you want the headlights to turn off after exiting the car- immediately after opening a door, thirty seconds delay, etc. Those settings stick until you ask them to change it again, since you can't change it without their dealer scan tools.
