Last time I checked, they don't have 50/55w ballast for D4S bulb. Those ballasts are made for D2S/D2R. If you use current aftermarket 50w ballasts, you may need to swap out your D4S bulb with D2S bulb. Your D4S denso ballast are designed to fit underneath the headlamp and has weatherproof rubber strip to protect against water. For aftermarket ballasts, you may need to cover up the opening underneath your ISx50 headlamp. The ISx50 headlamp is pretty huge and has enough room inside to circulate the extra heat. I was tempting to use aftermarket ballast when i did my RX330 projector swap, but the thought of the reliability of the ballast made me stick with the oem 35w ballast.

Yes, a D2S bulb will fit in your D4S projector once you cut a notch on the base of the bulb. You will need a replacement D2 ballast because the D4 ballast will not fire up your D2 bulb.

oh ok...so do u think that the xtra wattage will mess up the chrome in the reflector in the projector..Im pretty sure I can do the bulb notching...now the ballast...I guess it shouldnt be too hard, just dont wanna ruin the projectors...but then I guess it would give me a reason to do the rx330 reflector!

Just remember also that the oem Denso D4S ballast is designed to fit underneath our headlamp. It covers the openings underneath the headlamp, preventing moisture from coming in. Any aftermarket 50/55w ballasts having non-oem shape will require you to cover those openings. Just something to keep in mind.
As for heating issue, as long as you run the 50/55w ballast with OEM bulbs, it generate less heat than aftermarket bulbs. This has been proven by several members on hidplanet. The IS projector has a huge reflector bowl and should be able to take the extra heat without damage to the chrome reflector.

revived from the DEAD I am going to spearhead this project. Got myself some 55w ballast from DDM tuning. Got some D2S philips 82122+. bulbs. Im going to leave the factory ballast where they are to keep the seal. I am going to run a D2S to AMP wire harness to the 55w ballast. From there I will run a wireharness to the battery. I just need to find the wire that powers the OEM ballast and I think we might be in business. Anybody please chime in.
