Default 1998 Lexus LS400, 139K :$5,000

Gentlemen: I bought this vehicle off a CL member back in January of this year. Plans have changed and I am having to buy a diesel pickup for my business. I have had nothing but good driving in my short time of owning this car.

I've replaced the fluids, alternator, thermostat, and spark plugs during my time of ownership. In the interest of full disclosure, I will say the PO did not disclose everything about the car, so let me be honest in divulging all I know about the car:

- Installed new windshield in early February. Car had some rust on frame area; had all rust removed and glass cleanly installed.

- Rear trunk seal leaked slightly after I first purchased car. I used Gummi Pflege to soften up rubber and it seemed to help expand rubber seal.

- Tires: there was more wear on the tires than PO indicated. I have replaced the two front tires with newer used tires, back ones will need replacing within next 5,000 miles.

- Driver's side front seat: had more wear than indicated, still needs replacing. All other seats are in good condition.

- Spark plugs: when I first pulled the plugs, they were quite dirty. I installed all new NGK copper plugs in February.

- Car is showing code for oxygen sensors: I purchased 4 Denso units, but have not installed them yet.

- The CD interface is not displaying properly, and for those of you who know these cars, I take it this is a fairly common malady on UCF20's. The CD player works fine, as does the radio, it's only the display that is lacking.

- Last but not least, within the last month the car is exhibiting signs of a worn wheel bearing on the front left. Cost of parts for wheel bearing and wheel seal are under $50 on RockAuto. Most shops quote labor at between $200 - $250 here in Seattle.

If all the above hasn't scared you off, here is the original ad as posted by Suresh Chainani out of Houston:

Despite the PO not being completely upfront with me about some of the minor issues above, my experience with the LS400 has actually been good. Other than replacing the alternator with an OEM unit I purchased from RockAuto, she's been very reliable. If not for having to buy a truck, I would be keeping the car.

I purchased the car for $6,000 back in January. I am selling it for $5,000, which I think is a very fair deal considering everything. The body has a few scratches here and there, so while not perfect, is still in very good condition. I can tell someone previously tried to repaint the hood, the roof, and the driver's side door. While not a perfect paint job, it's more than good enough for all but those who are looking for show car quality.
