I can't say where I got this information from, but I read that the 1990-1992 Pioneer and Nakamichi Systems did not have the separate amp for the subwoofer. This also means that there is probably not a separate amp to the door speakers.

This does not apply to the SC series of cars, since those had the amp since the first year 1992.

I guess this makes sense, since I ran my deck straight to the door speakers from the stock audio wire bunch and it sounds fine with little audible distortion only at high volume levels. The deck gets as hot as any other aftermarket deck does also.

If anyone has any solid proof that this is correct please post.

It would help many of the people trying to install stereos in their 1990-1992 LS's.

my 91 ls4 has a seperate sub amp in the trunk. if i unplug it the sub stops working and the doors continue to play, so it must be the sub amp.

I noticed the sub amp too when I took out the carpeting.

So 1990-1992 has NO separate amp for the door speakers.

What controls the carphone 'BEEP' noise after the key is turned ?

Or better, does the door speaker make the beep noise? I've taken the panels off before, and it seems there's only one speaker.

This means that there is some kind of amp or pass through controller from the wires in the dash to the speakers. Or maybe it's just one pass-through to the speaker in the left rear door.

I just noticed this after removing the stock H/U and putting my deck in the car phone still beeps...
