sorry to bring this back from the dead but im going to do an aftermarket setup in my 2gs. i already have the head unit, jdm dash kit and jumper harness along with little alpine im going to run since they say once you switch to an aftermarket radio the factory amp and sub wont work anymore. i also want to keep all my trunk space so im going with a sub to fit in the factory spot on the deck. im not looking for crazy bass, just stock sounding or alittle better. how is the kicker comp10 for this application?

I have an IDQ10 in the place of the stock sub. it fits just fine with a few mods to mount the sub. it sounds better than the stock sub. however it does not hit as hard as a sub that is enclosed in a box. its more for the sound of bass and not the feel. i am powering it with a 250rms alpine. to be honest, in the driver seat, i dont even hear much of the sub. i hear my front speakers more.

Any sub with a decent amount of travel (16mm or more xmax), medium to high Fs (28 to 40hz) and a Qts of of .600 or higher will work. I like a a little more bass so I choose subs with a lower Fs (about 25hz) and a lower Qts (around .500). Both AE Speakers and Fi Car Audio make infinite baffle subs that meet the specs I listed.

I used a Fosgate 10 inch fit right into the old sub hole with very minor modification. built a box around it and bolted it up to the rear deck but I have a 2nd gen GS don't know how well it would work for a SC, and for the record your stock sub will work as long as you wire it directly to the radio (if it has that option for a sub)

You can fit a 12" if you make a spacer like the one on this page. I did something similar and mounted an Image Dynamics IDQ12v2. Sounds great.

i didnt want to go crazy with this setup. i did my setup this past weekend with a few friends. came out great. i went with the kicker comp 10 on the deck and a nice alpine amp with a kenwood touch screen. (mixed brands lol) sounds great though. alot more bass than factory and sounds alot clearer. im very happy with my choice and i get to keep all my trunk space!

Robert J,
First, thanks for all the knowledge you've contributed to the forum. Have you ever modeled the ED SQ10 for IB use? I've searched but couldn't find anything specific. I have a 93 SC and I'd prefer to replace the stock sub as opposed to putting a box to the trunk. From what I've seen, the SQ10 is a great fit with almost no modification but does it work? I know the company is gone but I found someone online who's selling one. It will be powered by an aftermarket amp. I have a different ED (11OV2, I believe) sub running IB in my 2GS with about 400 watts and it sounds great. That same sub, if I could even find it, wouldn't likely clear the SC's gas tank. Unfortunately, I can't find the specs on the SQ10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replied to your IM with the T/S parameters of the SQ10. If that deal falls through, the Tang Band shallow sub is very, very similar (a clone?) to the SQ10 - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-862

Another option is the MB Quart 10" shallow sub - http://www.techronics.com/caraudio_1...Subwoofer.html A family member has a pair of these installed in a truck and raves about the sound.

Thanks for getting back to me in both the thread and PM. This brand new 2 ohm SQ10 was $55 shipped from an ebay seller, so I jumped on it. I realize there won't be any support if I the sub fails but I'm okay taking that chance. I'm balancing SQ, budget and ease of install so if the SQ10 meets my needs, I'm a winner. If not, I'll go with the whatever else YOU think will work. Based on T/S parameters, should the MB Quart be a better performer in IB than the SQ10? Considering how small an enclosure the SQ10 calls for, it may end up in the tool tray of my RX330, which is in desperate need of some low end.

Thanks again

Based on T/S parameters alone, they should perform very close to each other. But parameters are never the last word in subs. You have the SQ10 so run it. If it does fail, there are other subs that can drop right in.
