Default Looking to put in a sub in the 3gs gs300

Like the title says I'm looking into getting a subwoofer in my 3gs. I have no experience in car audio.

I have non-ML speakers and I'm looking for something that I can bump, produce clear bass, and can produce low and high frequencies.

Right now i visited two car audio shops and they both told me not to replace my speakers, just add a sub and it should sound a lot better since the oem sub is shhhyt. I got quoted for 1 10" JL w1 sub and 1 alpine 500w amp plus installation for $650. They said they would disconnect and take out the free air oem sub and put the sub and box in the trunk and leave the hole where the oem sub is so the air can go thru.

Is this a good deal? If not what can i get that is better and possibly cheaper?

also are these good subs? I prolly would just need an amp, box, and installation if these are good and i got em

I would suggest you save the money and install it yourself. It's really not hard at all, just can be time-consuming with running/hiding all the wiring.

As for the sub, I'll let someone else speak on that.

Ive been reading a lot about JL subs... everyone says the w7 line is great if u have the money... 1 10w7 is better than 2 12w6....thinking about getting it on ebay or amazon

well i said f it, you only live once and pulled the trigger on 1 10JLw7 and a 1000watt amp..it's on its way

When I had plate rattle on my s14 in Japan, all I did was put some kind of foam padding behind the plate and that was that.
