Tire Vibration on 20s
I have '14 IS350 F Sport with 20" staggered fitment. I run Hankook V12 all around (255/30/20 on rears) and getting vibration thru the seat in the car at speeds over 70. I have about 10k miles now.
Took it in for balancing but problem still there. Tech showed me how the tires were wearing unevenly (like cupping) on the inside edge due to how the wheels are cambered in. He says all Mercedes, BMW and Lexus are cambered in on the rear.
I had 2is with same tires on 19" and no problem over the life of the tire. Problem will go away when i get new tires but still have 10-15k miles left.
Has anyone experienced this same issue and what did you do to fix it?

Agreed!! Centering's will stop the issue. Make sure you get the sizing from the spacer to the bore of the wheels also double check if the spacer is hub centric to the hub. I am pretty sure the bore of the wheels are 73.1

Velgen - I just mounted correct size hub rings while better still some vibration. Wheel shop thought it might be the wheel spacers in front? Any suggestions to fix?

NVMarkus - you may be correct. The wheel tech did show me how the rear tires were spinning our of round on the balance maching even though the wheel was OK. So, I may just have to live with this annoyance for another 10k miles until i replace the tires.
Other thought someone noted was whether or not my spacers are universal or hub centric. Does anyone know how I can tell?
Maybe I could try replacing the spacers see if this helps? But if truly the tires are "damaged", then spacers won't help. I think if i removed them, the brake calipers would rub against the inside of the rim spokes. There is very little clearance already with the spacers, i can imagine even less without them.
I never looked at them or knew they were on there until after they were mounted. If i had known the wheel would not fit without them i may have considered another wheel.
I had spacers on 19's before so perhaps the extra 1" and lower profile tires make vibration more noticeable? I had 3 sets of tires on 19s with no vibration and never balanced them after installed.

I have not experienced the situation where alignment causes vibration. I am not saying it can't or doesn't, but only that I have not experience it. I would not rule out a bent wheel. I bent two many years ago and knew it when it happened. The car definitely had a shudder at certain speeds until I got it fixed. This was on my AE86, not on the IS. AE86 has new wheels now.

Where did you get the centering rings from ? Are they Plastic ? Please email me your address i would like to send the metal ones that we offer. The plastic rings dont hold up as well. Did you purchase these used ? Why was there a spacer needed for the front ? Our wheels clear BBK. Info@velgenwheels.com
