Our fuel prices at the moment are about $1.76 AUD/L which equates to about $6 USD/Gallon and the car cost $85k AUD (About $76,000 USD at the moment. So yeah, we pay more for everything.

That really stinks, may I ask what the average salary is there in US dollars
In Australia we have 91, 95, 98. Likely due to the higher temps and increased risk of detonation but I'm no expert. I just put 98 in mine all the time. Not too bothered about fuel prices as I don't pay for it (work).

AUS uses the RON octane ratiing system while the USA uses the AKI octane rating system.
From wikipedia:
Difference between RON and AKI
Because of the 8 to 10 point difference, the octane rating shown in Canada and the United States is 4 to 5 points lower than the rating shown elsewhere in the world for the same fuel. This difference is known as the fuel's sensitivity, and is not typically published for those countries that use the Anti-Knock Index labeling system.

Q: Is Costco TOP TIER™ certified?
A: Yes. Both grades of gasoline sold at Costco meet and exceed TOP TIER™ requirements

Affordability index is probably the best way to look at earnings vs cost of living. This is essential to do if you're considering a move overseas for work and aren't on a lush expat package.
It's the same fuel. Your (AUS) 98 is roughly equivalent to our (USA) 91-93. We just use different rating systems.

Costo def isnt top tier gas, its actually one of the worst. The only time ive noticed the drive in my car to be weird was when I put costco gas in it. It felt like i had put in normal 87 gas

It's not gonna make a big difference. Since the minimum ON is 91, anything above that will be a waste. The engine only burns what it needs. The engine will run most optimal at that level. You're not making it more optimal by giving higher octane number than required. Therefore premium gas within the US has 91-93 ON range.

The minimum grade here in the UK is 95 RON but 99 RON will be my fuel of choice when I get round to filling up. My Toyota GT86 used to love Shell V Power Nitro+ which is 99 RON. I consider this the best fuel in the UK.

Been using Costco exclusively, they dug up the entire station and installed some new tanks that add some kinda techron like crap that's 5 times better than EPA standard whatever blah blah but their gas is clean they change the filters all the time that's really the reason I get it there.
