LMS intake in CA/smog test
I have a 2006 IS350 purchased from a non-lexus car dealer's used lot in I think 2008. Came with an after market LMS intake, which I had nothing to do with, today needed to get a smog check but failed visual inspection for having an after market part. I was sent to the CA air resource board for documentation but could not find anything. Does this company still exist? Any of you ever run into this problem or know of a solution? Thanks in advance for any info.

Dor anything to be CA smog legal it needs to have a CARB sticker affixed to it. To earn that sticker, the company needs to submit it to the state and have it approved. LMS and many other companies don't do that (because it costs money) and it keeps the price lower. You failed for that reason. You'd either have to swap back to a stock intake or another way you "might" be able to get by is to go to the Lexus dealer and buy the F Sport intake CARB exempt sticker (I bought it for $5). What I can't promise you is the place you got sent you will approve that sticker because you don't really have an FSport intake. Those are your only two options, other than buying an approved one also. Good luck.

Not the info I was hoping to hear, but everything you both said makes prefect sense. Unfortunately since it came with this intake I don't have the original to put it back in. Is there a part # for that sticker? Any chance they sell them on amazon/ebay? If lexus will sell me one does it go somewhere on the intake itself or just in the car/with the registration?
I have no idea how it wasn't failed before, I asked the same thing- especially since I'd taken it to the exact same smog check location for each of the previous tests (all of which it had passed). He asked me when I had installed it, I told it had been there since I bought it and that he'd already passed me with it before. He kinda changed his tune then, and said something along the lines of "oh we got fined recently so we can't do it anymore." At least he didn't charge me.
Phoenix72- I'm in san diego, super nice offer to a stranger, I really appreciate it but gonna have to find another solution.

Try finding another smog place. Some smog place don't even look at the engine. As long as you don't have any check engine light and pass the sniffer with no exhaust, you should be good to go. I have AFE stage 2 intake and I passed smog with flying colors.

Yes,definitely try another shop. Post in your area section for advice on "mod friendly" smog shop.
You could also contact this member and see if he has the complete OEM setup. Probably not since he doesn't list the Upper Box but try anyway.
Good luck
