So my transmission took a dump on me for a is350 07 with 95k miles. I have some options and wanted to get feedback on what you guys think. Also since my car doesn't have an lsd, I was wondering if this would be the time to add one? Let me know what you guys think and what option you would take? If you guys have any better suggestions please let me know. I don't want to spend all this money without weighing all my options. thanks!


1. rebuild the transmission one year warranty 1900
2. rebuild the transmission 2 year warranty 2400
3. Remanufactured transmission 3 year warranty 3800

This is at a transmission shop locally that I trust.

The stealer wants 4800 for a remanufactured transmission installed. they will not budge on price either. Only one year warranty. Seems super high.

Depending on how long you are planning on keeping the car. But i would say either 1 or 2.

I didn't think so, but I didn't think the transmission that is a sealed unit would last much past 150k. I honestly didn't think it would go at 95k though.

I am planning on keeping it until the engine can no longer run, about 250-300k miles.

I think a rebuilt and remanufactured transmission are different. The rebuilt one is acutally rebuilt at the transmission shop, and the remanufactured one comes from the factory like that. They just bolt that one on.

why not buy a remanufactured transmission from sewell and have the shop install it? peace of mind with oem that's my opinion

as for me i would rather spend the money and buy a low miles used transmission instead of rebuild since they'll use cheap parts and rebuild. i had 2 Acura TL and both tranny were rebuilt and didn't last more than 20K, i don't push my cars.

this is the same thing i was thinking, but the only thing that holds me back is that they also have the same option, but they give a 3 year warranty with their remanufactured transmission. Would this be the same as getting a remanufactured transmission from sewell, just no 3 year warranty?

I would go with option one. Then trade the car in!

lol I was tempted to do this, but I just purchased a BMW M4 and I promised myself I would use the Lexus as a daily driver. The car is still strong just a weak transmission. Sucks the weather is so crappy here in Chicago.

Find a good, low-mileage used trans from a parts yard and pay to have it installed.

There are only a handful of LSD choices :

-JDM TOMs
-ISF LSD
-OS Giken
-ATS LSD

I'd recommend the last two LSD options.

im sure if you opt for the Toyota reman transmission it will last much longer than 3 years. 3 year warranty sounds good if you plan on keeping the car for just that long. if longer, then get a Toyota reman.
