My 94 sc300 is acting up on me. My transmission will not stay in overdrive once the car warms up. my choices are have my transmission rebuilt or purchase a transmission from this salvage yard close to me for around 400.00. The salvage yard claims they will give me a 30 day warranty on the trans. I only have 1200.00 to work with...

A consideration should be made on replacing the vehicle, as it's a 1994.

The salvage shop has no idea what condiction the transmission they are supplying is in. After all, the auto it was in was totaled or flooded. They never saw it performing on the road.
Their warranty has you supporting the labor costs of determining it's running condiction. A replacement would mean another round of labor and supply costs with another questionable used unit.

Now it's the transmission, then something else expensive. Sometimes it is best to "cut your losses and run".

Might just be time for a change in automobiles.

i think buying a new car is stupid IMO its just a transmission very simple to replace i bought one from a junkyard one time and never had any problems with it or find one from a forum member who is more trust worthy. your choice but i dont think replacing the car is any kind of intellegent decision

Sure, there is always a point of no return for every car, even our beloved SCs, but unless he's spending 5x+ what the transmission costs or there's a used car out there made entirely out of unexpensive parts I don't see the problem.

If he wasn't doing the work himself I could see the argument, but for people who can do this themselves why not at least give it a shot?

thanks for the input. I love my SC and I do not want to part ways with it. It is paid for and I am not looking for a car note. I plan on doing the labor myself and I am leaning more towards the salvage transmission. I could swap out the trans, then look into working on my failing trans as a spare. you guys are very informative and I really appreciate all of the suggestions....
