Default How to remove rear spoiler

Can anyone tell me how to remove the rear spoiler on my 07 IS350. I am going to have it painted and do not want to leave my car at the paint shop for a couple of days.

Spoiler is held on by 2 screws and 3m tape.

Buy a upholstery clip tool from autozone $10
Remove trunk liner and screws.
Take some strong dental floss - Toms of Maine works well and saw the 3m off.

3m tape is a major pita to get off. Expect to spend a couple hrs cleaning it off. Use a heatgun and wd40 or googone.

Thanks for the input. That 3M tape is a pain for sure. It was hard to remove my rear emblem when i blacked it out.

Good tips! Goo gone works wonders.

Really? Ive always had more luck with wd40 and switching from wet/dry sides of a towel. I only said goo gone since most people swear by it. Unless the gel type is worse than another kind I've never had it work as well as WD.

Any residue 3m tape I've had trouble removing goo gone has done the job. I've not sure of the gel type, I've only used the liquid goo gone purchased from Home Depot or Lowes.

But yeah, wd40 works as well but my first choice would be goo gone and some water.

after removing the screws, use a heat gun on low heat or a hair dryer on low heat to heat up the 3m tape. After that you can either tug on the spoiler and lift it or use dental floss or fishing line and run it through.

Heating up the 3m tape will soften the tape/stickey part and make it easer to remove.
