i think im going to be calling my dealer once they open. new recall and its the exact issue they found where the bolts were loose causing the 2 cam shaft and camshaft to seize. the car was making the camshaft noise at start up for years and the dealer kept saying it was normal. i know that ive read on here that it happens to a lot of you so i would recommend taking it in asap.
The other recall involves approximately 102,000 model 2006 through 2011 Lexus IS 350, IS 350C, and GS 350 vehicles.
Bolts that hold the variable valve timing control device could come lose, causing the cars to stop.
Toyota says a possible early warning of the problem is abnormal noise just after start-up.
Owners of vehicles subject to these recalls will be notified soon.

it only happens when the car's been sitting for a while as well. this is a common problem that lexus has known about and only now is starting to do something about it.
i called to talked to my dealer and they were like wtf, we're not refunding you anything. i chatted some more with customer service and they're investigating into what the parts the dealer replaced. in this case, they replaced the loose bolt, and 2 cam gears which are the vvti's. all 3 are being recalled as it can cause the ecu to shut the engine down which happened in my case. i just hope that i can get reimburse for it

I'm not sure if this is helpful but I too had the same start up rattle but it wasn't in a lexus, it was in my 2008 TRD Aurion (supercharged 3.5 litre 6 cylinder available as a limited edition in Australia).
When I brought the car into Toyota for diagnosis (outside of warranty) in 2012, they immediately knew the problem and replaced the cam gears and hydraulic tensioners (from memory). As such, I think this is a systemic problem for this family of engines and I can only hope they've sorted this out on my 2012 IS350 F Sport

Update: just got a call from Lexus HQ today. They will be reimbursing me for everything as it was due to the failure of the same parts from the recall.
