Question Messing with exhaust

So my friend has a Subaru and instead of buying an exhaust he just put some washers where his pipes meet under the car. I was wondering if anyone has done that as an alternative for buying an exhaust for their ISx50, or am going to be the first

It would only create an exhaust leak which would make your car lose back pressure in the exhaust and in turn losing performance and most likely gas mileage just for the sound which also, wouldn't sound good in the cabin as there would be much drone. I wouldn't recommend this, just save up for a real exhaust system.

You can do what I did and install a cutout

I also have an exhaust system though lol

It's a valve that basically does what you're talking about, creating a large exhaust leak before the mufflers. Installed a switch on my dash so I can open and close it.

Thanks for the info guys...I did it yesterday to just test it and I gave it a few runs around my neighborhood and it didn't sound bad, I mean no drone at all but I'm back to normal now and I'm still debating if I should do it or not for a small period of time.
