Default 30 K Service

What should I get done for the 30 K service?

Do you think I should get the Dash TSB done? The last time I took the car they recommended it.

Just do what the owner's manual states. I believe it's oil and filter, brake fluid, air filter and cabin air filter. Don't get suckered into addition service the dealer wants you to do.

As for TSIB, if you are experiencing the problem, go for it.

Brake fluid change
Oil change.

That's all you should be paying the dealer for.

Change the engine and cabin filters yourself, takes about 5 minutes rather than paying $110 in labor for the dealer to do it.

yea the air filters are seriously 5 mins. IMO nothing should be done at the dealer for the 30k besides the brake fluid, everything else can be changed at home for much cheaper

When you take out the filter, does your AC need to be set to recirc or external? On one of my other cars if you tried to pull out the filter without setting the AC to recric, you'd end up snapping some plastic retainers.

I didn't do my 30k service from the dealer. Should I be worried about anything? I just did a normal oil change.

You should get your brake fluid changed (which you might want the dealer to do if you're not comfortable with it)

You should also have changed your air and cabin filters, but those you can do yourself in 5 minutes.

Thanks, I have about 37K on my car now so do you think it will be ok to just change the brake fluid at 40K Service? The car feels fine right now.

Honestly, many people go way, way, way too long without changing brake fluid, so even doing it at 40k will put you ahead of many.

Thing is, brake fluid gets water in it over time, which significantly lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid... the brakes will feel "fine" under normal conditions, because the whole brake system isn't hot...but if you suddenly find yourself in the mountains, or having to make a couple of panic stops, not so much...so changing every 2 years is a pretty good guideline for keeping it in spec... but going a little longer as you have won't kill you in normal driving or anything. Like I said many people ignore the change brake fluid recommendation entirely, and just get lucky enough to not need to heat their brakes up much.

Thanks Kurtz. I have some peace of mind now and I will still be changing out the brake fluid at 40k anyways.

I'm at a little over 24k miles. I just bought a blitz air filter for my 2008 IS 350 from ebay. This auction here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...d=&mfe=sidebar

For the cabin air filter, I saw this thread discussing how the filter you get form the dealer or many lexus parts places not being as good as before:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ir-filter.html

Seems there are some suggestions though on where to still get the better cabin air filter.

However, I was thinking of getting a blitz cabin air filter since I have heard they are reusable.
