Replaced Cabin Air Filter...
Hey guys,
So I replaced my cabin air filter with one I purchased from Sewell Lexus Parts. I was surprised that it came out to like $15 from their site.
But when I compare the two filters, the stock one that came with my car and the one I received from Sewell Lexus Parts, it looks like the new one is poorly made. (Not saying it has to do with Sewell Lexus Parts) But did Lexus change the cabin air filter?
The stock one that came on my 2006 IS250 has about twice as many "achordian" slits than the new one from the LexusParts site.
Any thoughts?

Ok. Maybe it wasn't $15... I guess it was like you said, $21 after discount. The regular air filter must have been around $15 then.
But the picture that they show on their website is definitely not the quality of product I received.
And actually, after looking at the packaging it came in... it says TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS. Now I know that Toyota and Lexus are "the same" company, but did I get jipped??

FWIW, all the OEM parts I got for my car were all marked Toyota.
The more important question is, did you get the right part? The owner's manual doesn't have any part number for the filter. Did the original have any part number on it?

All Lexus parts come in Toyota boxes... its always been that way. The only thing that actually says Lexus on the box, that ive seen, is windshields.
As others have stated, check part numbers between the old and new.

Doesn't look nearly as tightly woven, but I'm not sure if it should make a difference. I am not really disappointed, but what do you guys think?

Yea... that's exactly what mine looked like and what the new filter looks like. I'm sure I got the right one because the website makes you select make and model. So unless they made a mistake, it's definitely the right filter.
I guess they just decided to go cheaper? Who knows. As long as the quality of the air doesn't decrease.
I was satisfied with the pollen filter button/etc.

The YZZ let's you know it's not a "genuine" Japanese part, but from another supplier (oil filters are the same) and often they are from a US source. They're equivalents so they interchange, but the original filter was a much better piece.
I had the same issue. I think the original that came with the car is a filter element with activated carbon. The repalcement part is just a paper media, the cheap stuff. The good thing about the original it actually will trap odor and pollution due to the activated carbon.
