Help with my 2006 IS350 HID headlight problem
i just bought a 2006 IS350 it has HID headlights and 134k miles it runs fine, has a little transmission whine, not sure if thats bad though? but my main problem is, earlier today my headlights complketely went out while driving i had set it on auto mode. but it just flickered, then went out. i freaked out and fiddled with the light switch and it turned back on but not as bright as before. i need help. its my first car, i really love this car but i also want to keep the maintenence on check. please HELP. dont really know what the problem is and is the transmission whine bad is sounds like a supercharger kinda

When I first bought my 06 Is350 I had the same problem witb the headlights. All it was in the end were dying bulbs . So off I went to Amazon and ordered some replacement HID bulbs and what do you know? Problem solved
However there is always the off chance that your ballast may be going out as well but I find that unlikely. If i were you, id just order the lights honestly.
As for the transmission whine... Cant really say since that hasnt happened to me but id definitely look into that before it poses an actual problem. Good luck with your car and I hope everything works out for you in the end. The IS350 is a very reliable car for the most part so dont sweat it to much, but just have a trusted mechanic look it over for you.

Agreed, probably the original bulbs to the car. Time to be replaced. I'm going through the same thing myself on my '06 IS350. OE bulbs need to be replaced; their brightest is far from adequate now.
About the whine, check in the engine bay while someone else revs the motor slightly. Probably just the accessory belt. I get a similar whine when the engine is cold.

You need to just buy some D4S bulbs. XenonDepot or TheRetrofitSource are both good choices. I would recommend just changing both instead of 1. PM XenonDepot (Steve) here on the forum and see what he offers for replacement bulbs. As for TRS, I know they have a pair of D4S bulbs in 4500k, 5500k, or 6500k for $50. If you want OEM bulbs, look to spend upwards of $100+.

I agree with allstar319 about XenonDepot and TRS; way too many counterfeit/fake bulbs on eBay and Amazon. Recently installed a pair of Osram CBI bulbs in my car, and I am very pleased: http://www.xenondepot.com/d4s-cbi-66...p/66440cbi.htm

would these be a good option for my car?

Of course I'd recommend OEM bulbs if you're willing to pay the extra dough.

Those are $72.60 after selecting the D4S bulbs. TRS bulbs are $50 + $3-5 shipping (link). I've never heard of Light-Pros, so I can't comment on quality. I would personally recommend TheRetrofitSource (TRS) though, as their aftermarket bulbs are some of the best aftermarket choices out there. Customer service is top notch as well if you ever have problems with them. You can't go wrong with XenonDepot either, but are a bit pricier at $119.99 (I think Steve had a $20 off coupon on here somewhere). Paying for quality though.
