Couldn't agree more. IMO, our IS's are too small of a sedan to get away with 20's. Don't get me wrong, I've seen some great looking IS's on here with 20's and they pull it off nicely, I just prefer the clean look of 19's. Not to small, but not to gawdy either. Just get staggered whatever you do.

20's in the rear, 19s in the front. Any other configuration and one wheel will either look too large or too small. Given how unpractical that choice is, I vote for the nicest 19s you can find. If there's anything worse looking than a wheel thats too small for a car its a wheel thats too big for a car.
Here's my setup(shameless plug):
19x8.5
19x9.5
Somebody else's car
DUBS
I almost went with 20s after seeing that setup, however from certain angles the front wheels really do overpower the car.
Like in this picture:
(Same car)
I think the style of the rim has the largest effect on the the appearance, however IMO 19s do generally look classier than 20s.
Also for reference, here is a CL member's IS with the same wheels but in 20s. I believe this picture proves my point in that it shows how the rear wheel looks "just right" in 20" but the front wheel looks that way in 19".

Attachment 122823Do you mind tire rub or not? 20's will rub.
Tire choice determines this, NOT wheel size.
Many guys run 245/35-20 in the front because the tires are cheap, but
these are TOO TALL and do rub because the tires are oversized.
235/30-20 + 295/25-20 and call it a day.
20s are the new 19s. The 19" market is shrinking by the day, at least in
the high-end wheel market. 20s look fantastic on an IS with correct tires
and proper stance.

You guys drive me crazy with these sweeping generalizations. Wrong!
