it's like getting pulled over for tint, exhaust, etc. If the cops are bored or have some sorta quota you could get pulled over. Or just another violation to add to the ticket.

pull over to the right!!! yes you can, one of my friends has smoked tails (aftermarket) not overlay, and got a fix it ticket, cop claimed there must be red on the tails. maybe if you do light tint where there is still a shade or red would be ok, basically they can pull you over for any aftermarket mods as an excuse.
Cali has strict laws, just watch out for the CHP, local city cops dont care much for tint, i drive by few every now and then. i usually roll my windows down but sometimes its too late

it depends where you live. in most states that would be illegal...of course cali police will pull u over quick...but it all depends on the cop really and how you drive. Here in Nevada we don't have as strict laws as california...but it definitely is illegal to tint them in non compliant colors...but you will see many rides here and police right behind you not even flashing their lights.
Cops don't really care just depends.
but check your official state's website for state legislature statutes for vehicle regulations.

That one is legal, you have to reflect yellow in the front and red in the read. You also have to emit a red light from 500ft (WA state) when the brake light is on.
So that being said, the above pic is fine because the red reflectors are in the bumper just like the ones on the IS. What you need to be able to do is still emit an acceptable red shade at 500ft through the smoked rears.
As for the fronts, I'm not sure on the restrictions except for reflecting yellow, which is built into our headlight on the sides.

whats an 'acceptable red shade'
THe smoked rears still allow light transmission, just not sure how much/how far it is visible. But the fact that they aren't "red" all the time is a BS reason for a fix it ticket.
i wish i had a DBS :\
