This hit me while in class.
So im in my chemistry class and start to bust out my iphone to get my mind off what the teachers saying when it hits me.
For those of you running the SL2vi with your iphone.... do youtube videos also show up on the nav screen? I think it would be pretty sweet to be able to run youtube on our car. How many other cars you know with that capability?
If id does consider myself sold on sl2vi.

There was a post on a GS who installed the kit, they plugged in a video ipod and the video was transmitted and showed up on the factory nav screen but after he installed everything back together there was no video from the ipod and didnt show up on the screen anymore...

Depends on the kit and generation of the iPod. The previous generation iPods had no video lock out. The latest generation iPod Classics, Nano, iPhone, iTouch and such Apple locks out the video output unless you buy the Apple cable with a chip in it that the device recognizes and unlocks the video output. 3rd parties have to license this from Apple, so unless it is a late generation Apple licensed cable or iPod interface unit the video wont pass through. Unless someone already hacked this lock out feature?

i have 3rd Gen iPod Nano and it is considered as one of the new generations.
and i also got SL2Vi installed on my vehicle.
and mine does not show the video on the screen.
with newer gen of iPod videos, it requires "authentication chip".
according to VaisTech, SL2Vi will be released with "authentication chip" built-in to the SL2Vi unit(not an additional cable).
those of you who have already purchased the SL2Vi w/o "authentication chip", can send the SL2Vi unit back to VaisTech and get the free chip installation(considered as "Upgrade").
and as far as i know, they will be able to upgrade SL2Vi from the end of March which is very soon!
I am ready to send mine back!

^^ Yep, that's why i ended up keeping my 5.5G 80 gig instead of upgrading to the 160gig 6G Classic. If your information about the authentication happening in the unit is correct, your unit might be able to be upgraded with a software flash so you may not need to send it back. That said, I think I remember talking to VAIS and they said that we'd need a new cable because the authentication would be built in to the cable, not in to the sl2vi.
FYI the video mode is really just simple mode with video out enabled. You can even listen to music in the video mode and control everything on your ipod just like you can in "audio" simple mode.
I'm not sure how the iphone's video out works when watching web videos, but if video out is enabled, I think youtube videos should show up on the nav screen. If video out is enabled, can u hook it up to your tv and watch youtube videos there? Should be an easy enough test for someone with an iphone + sl2vi.

just to clarify...
Vaistech was going to put the authentication chip into the cable, but this is the latest update that Vaistech came up with... the authentication chip will be built-in to the SL2Vi unit, and just by updating the firmware won't fix the issue.
only way to get new generation iPod Video to work on the SL2Vi is to send the unit back to them and get it upgraded.

EDIT: just checked the vaistech board, it appears that you are correct - they've recently changed their plans about where the authentication is going happen and it's now going to be in the unit itself, not in the cable.
