I had to order an IS350 a few weeks ago due to the luxury pkg not being released in TN yet. I asked for the ground effects package and spoiler to be ordered and was told by the dealership that these are only a dealer installed option and is not available through the factory. I'm concerned that the dealership won't install the ground effects as well as what they would have been at the factory. Has anyone been told this by another dealership????

Welcome to CL and congrats on your new order. The ground effects package are a DIO (Dealer installed option) and eventually will be a "port installed option". The cars come plain from japan...but once they hits our shores, the parts are added onto the car either at the Port during inspection or at the dealer before or after delivery. Your dealership is correct.

The dealer in my area actually was able to order the car with the ground effects kit and spoiler through the system and according to the sales director at the dealership they get assembled in Japan as of the orders that they started taking in mid December.

True the parts are made in Japan but aren't put on until later. There is too much chance of damage of those parts during transit. External pieces like side mirrors, antennas, hubcaps, center caps, mudgards and etc aren't installed on the car until dealership delivery. Majority of Lexus vehicles sold in your state start off here in SoCal at the Port of Long Beach and are loaded onto train or truck. The dealership can order your car with the kit obviously, but the actual pieces itself aren't put on the car until they arrive at the port or your dealer.

See a car with the ground effects in person before you commit to it. We rejected our car do to poor fit of the kit. It was very bad. It was installed at the port and looked horrible. The rear trunk spoiler was good and so was the front lip. The side skirts and rear apron were very bad. Look the car over very carefully before you sign on the dotted line.

I've heard before of ill-fitting pieces on the aero kit...Dealer doesn't forsee any trouble installing it, although they have never installed one on an IS before. I'm a little nervous about what the final result will be...I guess only time will tell.

Where in TN are you located? What dealership did you order from?

I'm up in Kingsport and our dealer is only getting 1 or 2 IS shipments every 3-4 weeks. I've not even been able to test drive one yet!!

unless you are getting a bid discount on the body kit with the purchase of your car, there is no rush to get it on now. Get the car, drive it around and see how you like its stock look; also look at cars with the kit to see if you like that (I personally think the kit is too subtle to be worth the money). I bet aftermarket kits will be available soon, if not already--they generally look better than factory kit.
