I have 18 inch wheels with 225/40/18 Toyo's. I also have the car lowered with Tanabe Super Down Precedeo springs. I am encountering trouble with a nut & bolt on the upper "A" arm in the front wheel well. It is slicing and shredding through my tire. Has anyone with a lowered IS300 on 18's ever had this problem? With 17's? I am hearing all sorts of advice in getting a 215/40/18 tire, or getting a 35 series tire...(35 series is too thin, will bend rim).
What setup works for you??? PLEASE HELP!!!

This shouldn't be a problem with the proper offset wheel with that 225/40 tire.
Is it rubbing all the time?!?
Any ball joint nuts will move with the suspension and not change position (much) relative to the tire.

No, it doesn't rub all of the time... Usually when the car hits a "dip" on the road, or when I am turning at a street corner or U-turn.
To be honest, I never even knew that damage was being done until a piece of the tire flew off at the freeway.
I've had the rims/tires on for 6 mos too, and it just now started happening. I don't get it...

In order to provide you with an appropriate offset recommendation, we need to know the width of the rims you are currently using.
Generally, an 18x8 in rim should have an offset of +44. With this offset, the wheel will be flush w/the body panel and should not rub any body panels or suspension parts.
You may need to space out the rim w/a thin 3-5mm spacer to clear the rubbing.
