Advice/feedback on 2008 isf price point
Hi, looking to purchase a 2008 isf in the next couple of days. Going to go from 2 cars- 99 gs400- DD and 95 supra- fun car (not much use nowadays) to 1 fun DD. So the isf was the top choice. Always been a toyota/lexus guy. So my concern is that I been looking at 08-10 isf and the majority price point seems to be around $30-$35k and around 40-60k miles. But the one I'm really considering is 2008 isf with 125k miles, fully maintained, upgraded 12' headlights, lowered on swift springs and 19" forgestar rims for $23.5k. Is this a good deal or should I go for a lower mileage one? And I also seen a few isf with over 100k miles and price seems to drop a lot after 100k miles. Is there a major issues or maintenance needed on these cars after 100k miles? Coming from only lexus/toyota cars I wouldnt think high miles would be an issues?. Are isf probe to problems with high mileage. Any feedback or advice would be great.

I won't offer any advice on price since our Canadian market seems more expensive. I will say that from my research there isn't much maintenance besides the usual. I haven't read anything about major recalls or expensive fixes with the higher kms either. I just picked up a 2011 recently and I wanted this year solely for the revised suspension and lsd. If you haven't been in both generations I highly suggest you test drive both.
Also the 2011+ has an awesome gauge cluster and slightly different seats. Hope this helps you!

No major issues, but my advice is to go for the lowest mileage car that you can afford. 125k is not a lot, but you are talking a 6 year old car which means 20k+ miles/year, and that's a lot of use in a relatively short period of time. Just my 2 cents.

these isf's are built in Japan, like the Landcruisers... very high quality... Had 300K miles on my '99
LC and nothing wrong with it when I sold it.. they shipped it overseas..
These ISF's are rear drive and built tough.. Look on Cars.com at these American built Camry's , front wheel drive that are up for sale with 250K miles...and not near as high quality as the Lexus's built in Japan...
My wife has a 2007 Camry V6 and I know she will go 300K miles easy.. and it is not near as tough as a rear wheel drive ISF....
JMHO
Just have it inspected thoroughly by a certified lexus mechanic....You might get it even less if they find something minor wrong with it.
Cheers, Zale

Video Link: http://youtu.be/TnxKNaPzypI I hope the dyno video of my car can convince you that a high mileage F is nothing to worry about. 110k miles now. 10 dyno runs at 107 and 108k and the power isn't down at all vs another F at 50k miles. Both with similar headers and exhaust mods on the same day and same dyno. I made 10+who actually. That could be due to my lighter wheels/tires and rotors that's responsible for the extra 10whp

When I started looking at the ISF this past summer I too started with the '08 models and debated whether I should be buying a higher mileage car for the premium prices that these cars command even in the used car market. I was not really worried so much about the reliability or service factors for the car because as we all know Toyota/Lexus makes great cars. What concerned me the most is that regardless of the car at a certain point in years and/or mileage the value of a car drops rather significantly. Typically once a car gets close to 150-200K miles it is going to become much less desirable. Even though you can expect that it is going to continue to provide reliable transportation you will no doubt need to update wear and tear items like suspension components, and minor mechanical items. So the question you have to ask yourself is, are you ok with spending $30k on a car which in about five years will probably be worth half that or less. For me I decided to get a newer one (2012 model) for more money thinking that after five years if I decide to sell it, I suspect my net depreciation costs will not be that much different than if I had bought an older higher mileage car. The newer one would also be easier to trade in for a new car if I decide I don't want an ISF anymore. The '08 would have a crazy poor trade in value five years from now.
My other consideration was that I am at a stage in my life that I am not as keen to crawl under my car as I was ten or twenty years ago (yes I am one of the old farts here). I wanted a good fast comfortable car with a minimum of service concerns. I think the newer ISF fits the bill. I suspect if I was ten or fifteen years younger I would have gone for the '08 model but I would picked one that was priced really well.

Thx the replies. Think I'm gona pull the trigger on the 125k mile isf. My think is this car already took the hit on depreciation but the engine will last a long time. Car depreciation is a thought on car purchase now since I was kinda lucky on the supra. I bought my supra 12 yrs ago and I recently sold it for more then what I purchased it for originally.

125k miles shouldn't be a problem at all. The engine and transmission in the IS-F are stout and don't get loose or wear down. The usual wear and tear stuff, like suspension parts, bushings/struts etc., and cosmetic stuff like scuffs/scratches/dents are the only things to look out for.
You can always put a set of coilovers or 2013 model year suspension on the 2008 if you want better ride quality. I was pretty ok with my 2008's suspension, super stiff but no worse than my Evo X was with Eibachs, but I upgraded to the 2013 suspension anyway and it's much smoother.

I just bought an 2008 f with 6500 miles on it for 36700, I had it trailered from seattle for about 1800. Car is immaculate. Just to give you a price point. So it seems like I paid around average price for an 08 with very low miles, howver yours is 1t 125k miles but you are also paying almost 13k lower for what I paid for mine. Plus you have the upgrades. So in my opinion with an f as sound as it is, the deal you have sounds pretty good. just my 2 cents.
