Real Exhaust - Will carbon diffuser be ok?
Hi Guys,
So I got my Arkym carbon rear diffuser installed today.
Next up for me will be a true quad exhaust system, which replaces the fake tips.
My only concern being the heat the real tips will generate.
Does anyone have a real exhaust with a carbon diffuser installed??
Cheers.
Peter

Nah it's got great physical properties for heat and cold hence why nasa, boeing, military use it for lots of different things. Only thing with unpainted cfrp is uv rays break down the epoxy causing the yellowish clear tint to it. Thermal properties of carbon fiber are amazing, I just got info on several classes to take on composite manufacturing, partially through my work (boeing).

Just make sure that the exhaust tips you replace it with are double walled - there is an air pocket between the exhaust side and the exterior side that keeps running temps lower....and carbon fiber will discolor and burn from the heat if touching the diffuser, so your worry is real....its called heat damage, due to the epoxies in the hard coat.
Joe Z and ISS Forged are double walled. The clearance is very close on these aftermarket exhausts, once you add diffusers.

A true quad exhaust system huh? interesting...sorry I can't answer your question, I just have a fake Borla catback running through fake exhaust diffusers. Just kidding, I know what you are trying to say.

Thanks guys.
We have a firm over here that sell a carbon fibre cleaner, that also protects from UV etc.
Firm is called Kleers.
It's not cheap, but with all the carbon bits I'm running, think I'll give it a go.
Here's a link for info purposes:
http://www.kleers.com/exterior-products/the-carbon-uv-protector
I'll check with the manufacturer if they are double walled as well.
Just didn't want my expensive diffuser getting ruined!
Thanks again for the help.
Cheers.

I had a friend with a is350, he took his carbon fiber pieces to a body shop and had them clear coat everything. They looked very good in person especially through a lot of wear and tear. Perhaps, you can look into this as well. He mentioned the factory did provide a clearcloat already but he just wanted to double up especially here in Florida. Just a thought...

Thanks Stu.
I didn't think it would cause a problem, but worth asking others than have run similar setups.
I know for example that the carbon tip covers were melting during harder track use (read a thread on here about it), hence Joe Z doesn't offer them anymore.
I'm sure it won't be an issue for regular/fast road use.

Hey bro I have used this product before on my STI and EVO when I had the Vortex diffuser and really does work. My turbo car produce a lot of heat and with this product I did get that ugly yellowing or burning stain that you would normally get.. But good thing to share for Carbon fiber..
Thanks guys.
