Question How can I access my ECU

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how I can access my ECU? I want to get hold of my ECU part number and take a picture of it.

Would it be somewhere underneath these wires? if so does anyone know how I can access it? Will I have to disconnect all the wires to gain access to it? or is there an easier way?

It's the silver aluminum box in the forward section of the plastic housing. You need to move the junction connections out of the way unplug the ECU connections and then remove the 10mm nuts that you see on the studs holding the brackets.

Thanks mate, do the junction connections simply come out in one piece? or do I also have to unplug the individual wires connected to it?

and I just released I posted this in the wrong section, can someone move this to the general ISF section?

You should clearly be able to see that there are individual connectors. You don't pull the wires out of the back of the connector, you just unplug the connector from its respective socket.

For example if you look at the ECU as RCB pointed out. There is a loom full of wires running to the front, that is one connector, then another behind it, etc.. Keep moving down the line until they are all unplugged.

This should be very, very simple.

No, it's more like 6 connectors. When you do the valve lash inspection you have to remove the whole assembly - ECM, housing, the works - then move the wires out of the way. It's pretty quick though.

There is no maintenance reason to do this except the valve lash inspection or pulling the engine.

Do a search, there is a DIY for this task, I used it in late 2008/early 2009 to remove my ECU... twice.

Guys, even TIS doesn't have a specific procedure (that I've seen) for removing the ECM aside from "remove it." Lol. It's only a few pressure tabs that need released to free the connectors. Just look very closely!

I can try to get a few pics Sunday as I have mine apart..
