Default Vin not listed under Toyota Recall but fault appeared?

Hi Everyone,
Just purchased a 2009 ISF imported from Japan, last week I was putting in the K&N filter kit and noticed the radiator fan on the driver side is broken. Did a bit of searching around the net and found that there is a recall for the radiator fan screws, it might become loose and cause an issue. Knowing this I contacted Lexus New Zealand and tell them about this issue, but they kept insisting that there is no recall service issue with my car? They said the Vin number doesn't show up on the Toyota recall website? The car is imported from Japan last year around May 2015, maybe the Vin number database hasn't been updated?

The Lexus service centre is not keen on this recall issue and insisted that there is no recall service issued for my car, but in the end I offered to pay them for the inspection fee and have them look through the 4 Recall issues. Going to take it to them on Friday, anyone have gone through this recall issue? any suggestions on how I should go about this recall issues? Thanks.

Dropped off car to Lexus for check up, the air bags seems fine but both the fans needs to be replaced. Car dropped off on 18 Nov, still waiting for parts to arrive from Japan.......... asked for an ETA they advised 28th Nov. They wouldn't provide another ETA and I was advised to just wait....... 3 weeks now since I dropped off the car. I think an engine rebuild would take at most 3 weeks? I didn't know replacing the fans would take longer than an engine rebuild.

Did they provide a courtesy car? That is an unusually long wait. And it's strange your vin doesn't have this recall for the fan shrouds. Have you tried printing off the recall notice from this forum? I'm sure it's circulating somewhere.

Yes, I've been driving around a Toyota Yaris YR for 3 weeks now, have to constantly remind myself that this is a Yaris and it is not capable of overtaking maneuver. I've given them a copy of the Lexus recall letter from the website and also provided them the links to the recall website, but after the inspection they said this damage is not covered under the "fan screw may come loose" recall issue. I have contacted them on more than 5 occasions asking them for updates, but they just kept giving me the same reply "parts haven't arrived, we will call you and let you know when the parts have arrived".

They gave you a yaris for your ISF? Eeeek. Your photos seem to show that the fan shroud is damaged? Possible from loose screws. Sounds like the recall description to me.

ha, yep Yaris for ISF. The Lexus dealers seems to think that because my car is 2nd hand imported (~83000km) from Japan it's worth less........ That's what I originally thought as well, screw loose and cause the shroud damage. But Lexus say they have put the request through (not sure where) and said this does not fall under the recall category. Instead of dragging this out further I just agree with the quote and ask them to replace the fan & shroud.

Sigh.. Well hopefully they finish up soon for you.

Two years ago I was down in NZ and drove both islands with a Yaris. I feel your pain on the highways . Just gives you more time to enjoy the scenery!
