Default car battery is dead...our local shops don't want me buying their batteries?whaaaat?

today i tried starting my car (08),the car wont crank and battery is too weak....so i tried calling the nearest shops asking for running price of the ordinary 2SM battery.....of course their first question is "for what car? i will check our catalog which size you need".......after telling them its an ISF,the shops will tell me "we dont have batteries for lexus...those cars are like the other europeans,(BMW,MB etc...etc...) they have special batteries with higher ....(i forgot the term)...."

so my question is, can i buy just an ordinary 2SM battery (same with other toyota cars are using) or we really have a "special" battery?
p.s. my current battery is an AC Delco

TIA

I replaced my battery with a Duralast form autozone. No issues.

First I've ever heard of this. Not to bash them or anything, but I'm curious which parts stores did you talk to?

Yeah, that sounds ridiculous. I replaced my original battery with an Autozone Duralast as well. The ISF does not require some sort of "special" battery.

Weird.......they think you have an (AGM) absorbed glass mat battery?

Every battery catalogue I look at lists normal group 25, without high accessory loads (and they list the IS F, apart from the other Lexus models)

I would find another battery shop that knows what they are doing and can read a fitment catalogue properly.

The proper size for an IS is Group 24. See this thread:

I have a Bosch Group 24 in my ISF.

I bought the Bosch 24 AGM battery from pep boys. I love the blue top in it. Looks great in the engine bay.

Nothing special about Lexus batteries that I know of. On the other hand when it comes time for battery replacement on most modern BMWs, it is a PITA. You have to use the service software to tell the ECU when you replace the battery, and what kind of battery it is.
