Default First autocross event in my F

Well I finally got my IS-F out for a fun day of autocross. My BMW (see sig) is my primary autocross car.

The F is a little bit out of its habitat on small/slow autocross courses, but it was still a lot of fun. Plan is to hit up some open track days and HPDE next with the car.

the F is pretty big and heavy for autocross. Definitely not it's strong point.

I think the reason you were losing grip intially is that the tires were cold, you had a dusty lot, and the car weighs a tons, and the course is narrow as all hell. This makes taking an appropriate line through a corner much more difficult in a car that weighs 2 tons with a driver. HPDE is going to be much better and really suit the weight of the car . AutoX is easier for super light cars usually

Yea not its strong point for sure, but it did do well considering the circumstances. I placed 8th out of 20 in the street tire index class (it was a BMWCCA event which uses SCCA PAX) and if I had good tires, I am pretty confident I would have been in the top 5. This is against a number of nationally competitive trophy winning drivers with SCCA that have setup cars.

But anyways, I can't wait to stretch its legs on a larger track for sure. Autocross just barely cracks into the power, but it does provide lots of lateral G's and transitions that you just don't get on a road course.

True, the tires may have been cold, however I ran in the second heat so course was dusted off and rubber put down. I think it was more of me learning to be more precise on the throttle with the F, or it would break loose. My BMW throttle is like an on/off switch and it just grips all the way, not so much on the F with all the power Yes, light weight cars are generally the way to go in autox, but there are plenty of big/heavy cars like the F that work fine. My primary autox car is 1000# lighter than the F, hah.

The stock tire sizes mixed with the higher torque at low speed is a formula for over steer

oem size all rouder PSS!!!

back up in oem or 245/275 RE11 #1, then #2Nitto NT05 ( the most track focused ), S04 Pole Poisition #3. Ive done a ton of research and these are probably the best options for a street car that does see some rain

I ended up going with Michelin PSS in OEM sizes. Finding something in 245/275 sizes was very difficult, and the ones I did find were just too expensive.

The PSS feels like an ok tire on the street. See how they at an autocross and track day before too long.
