Center Console
Guys, I need some advice. I just picked up my 08 IS-F; due to my work schedule my wife took delivery of the car. In the mean time I noticed that the center console cup holder flap will not close, no big deal right?? Two days ago I stopped at the dealer to schedule an oil change and I pointed out the fact that cup holder flap was broken. The service manger said that they would take car of it. Today I received a call form the service manage stating that Lexus would NOT cover the repair under warranty. Here’s where it gets weird, apparently the previous owner had the car in for the same thing and Lexus determined that it was broken intentionally and will not cover it under warranty. The dealer quoted me $990 to fix the cup holder WTF. The service manager would be willing to sell me the part for cost at $680 OMG.
Anyways, has anyone removed or taken apart the center console?? I think with a little time and some JB-weld and I can fix it myself. Any tips or pointers for the disassembly would be greatly appreciated.

intenttuantly? Do you mean intentionally?
Taking it apart is pretty easy. If the top of the cup holder is in good condition, you could likely get another console (ANY 2IS console - does not have to be the F unit) and scavenge the parts you need.
Here's where I get picky though. What the previous owner did to the car is not your problem. I'd go back to my salesperson and tell him/her about this - especially what the service manager claims - and ask him to make it right because you would not have taken delivery of the car without this being right. If he or she is worth anything, they'll tell service to make it right at no cost to you.
I've had the cup holder completely apart - literally everything removed - to clean up spilled coffee, so I know it's not complicated to get the console out and cleaned up. I actually need to do this again...I could probably take some pictures because I would not be surprised if others would find it helpful for cleaning too.
FWIW, you could order Lexus part number 55620-53010 and get everything you need to fix it except the carbon fiber top. If the top itself is broken, this part won't fix your issue. The genuine F part is 55620-53080-A0, and it costs a grip and a half compared to the plain jane one in the 250 and 350 (without wood trim).

Oops, I ment intentionally.. Thanks for the info. I have my Oil change scheduled for Firday, I plan to discuss this more in detail with the service manager.
Any direction/help for the disassembly would be great.

Removing the center console is easy.
First remove the two silver garnishes. To do so pull up and towards the back of the car.
Then slide the armrest back a little.
Then just on the sides where there is a holes from the garnishes missing pull up toward the ceiling and it comes off.
Unclip the harnesses and flip it over.
There are 4 screws holding the cup holder on to it.
Check ebay man. I just bought a cup holder like last week for like $35.
You can buy a silver / wood cup holder from a 2IS also and it will work. Just need to pop off the trim covers and swap them from the tiny hole in the back of the lid.
