What's up guys, my lexus tech recommended 0w-20. But as I read on here, many of you run 5w-30. You all seem very educated, what do you all think?

I'd consider 0w-30 since once at temperature it will present the same viscosity as 5w-30 will. You might be fine with 0w-20, but Lexus does not recommend it, and specifically states 5w-30 is the preferred oil for the 2UR-GSE. If I were to make a change like this, I'd be sampling pretty frequently until I got comfortable with the results.

Great thread. I guess I'll wait until 10k instead of the regular 5k service.

Lance can chime here for sure, he's more knowledgeable with this kind of stuff. This apply to your other thread as well.

Looks like a pretty typical report for hardly used oil. Put some miles on the next load and see what you get. Extrapolating 5 ppm in 1800 miles to the 12k I usually run is 33 ppm. Way more than I typically see. What oil are you running?

Not sure what the heck was in there. That was the oil It came with, it had a ****ty and dirty Autolite filter . Currently I'm running 5W-30 Mobil 1 full sync and a Wix filter element. So you think my engine is wearing too fast? Do you think it was beaten by previous owner?

Here is MY08 IS F's (2UR-GSE) FIRST oil analysis report..

113k miles on the clock.. Oil changed DIY every 5-6k miles w/ conventional Mobil 5w30
(Never had synthetic in it)

Enjoy,

Would have been nice to have a TBN on that run. The viscosity says you're likely changing it too often. The iron content is also just a little high - again, extrapolating your 6k run to my 12k, you would have 30 ppm which is about 30% more than I see running Mobil 1. The last time I hit 30 ppm on a 12k run, I had two track weekends on the oil.

Mine is a Freeway Queen...

Using the conventional oil & oem filter.. I am sure I can run it to 7,500 intervals safely...

When I'm going past 5k and into 6k its because my weekends are booked well in advance.

P.S. - I know i should have asked for the TBN.. Maybe next time...

Very good thread guys. I guess the Yzza4 is working as well as the Isf specific? I read the long thread and switched to it last change. I still do mine every 5000. I'm thinking about going longer but my oil is definetly dirty at 5k. So I'm a little skeptical about going longer.

What does dirty mean? The whole point of this thread is to underscore a simple fact - it is impossible to determine the quality of your oil without an analysis. Color is no indication of viscosity, lubricity, or total base number. The only reliable way to determine these things is through testing the used oil with a company like Blackstone.

If I changed my oil based on appearance, I would be throwing away a lot of still very useful oil. Because the F's engine holds nearly 10 quarts, it makes solid economic sense to test your oil and determine what the right OCI is for your climate and driving patterns.
