Brake Fiasco
Been trying to get brakes put on my car for 2 days.
Called two local Lexus dealers, both quoted me $370-ish for the pads. I then called back and asked their service people - how much for a front brake job on the IS-F? Response, from both dealers: $299
I told them "as much as i'd like to believe that.. can you please double check"... both places checked with the service manager and "verified" that it was $299. I quickly booked an appointment at the dealer, and an hour later they called me to tell me they made a mistake and that price was incorrect; $450~ was the correct price (as I expected).
So continuing the saga, I made an appointment and brought the car in today. Went through the same pricing fiasco again, got that resolved; left.
Three hours later (about 3:15PM) they call me and say "we don't resurface/cut rotors for the IS-F. It puts them out of spec".. which is interesting, because they told me before hand that they DO cut/resurface the rotors. I also verified that the OTHER dealership (the one I didnt go to) DOES actively resurface IS-F rotors.
Anyway, I went and reclaimed my car and took it to a local place (that I should have taken it to first, but didnt because they were $100 more than lexus)..... they said they can resurface the rotors. They will still be within spec, but just barely. Worst case scenario - I don't like the feel/sound and get new rotors as well.
Anyway - that's the story. Just thought i'd share it.
Cost of Front pads+labor = $450
Cost of Front Rotors+labor = $600++
Stupidity of Lexus dealers? Priceless.

The OEM Brembo brake pads MSRP for $380...
A good deal for the OEM pads is anywhere between $268 to $350... just checked a few dealerships online.
Then there is always the DIY: IS-F Front Brake Pads
Unless the rotors are heavily grooved or warped, a simple pad slap & proper bed-in procedure should work out just perfectly..

Did you go to Lexus of North Miami? I was there last month and got the pricing for front brake service like this:
Rotors, pads, labor: ~$900
Pads, labor: ~$480
Labor only: ~$250
They gave me those details because at first they thought I'd need a full service, but after inspection they said that my rotors where fine. They mentioned that these rotors can NOT be resurfaced, they need to be replaced. I asked about getting low dust pads and they said that they don't carry them, but if I get them somewhere else I can bring the car in for labor only.
