What the hell is this?
Looked all through the manual, but have no idea what this is. Its under one of the rear headrests, clips in between the headrest rails. It has the word TOP on it, that doesn't show up in my photo.
Assume it has something to do with a child safety seat, maybe stop it rubbing on the leather at the top of the seat.
Any of my Vert friends got a definite answer. Tried my service guy at the dealer and he didn't know.

That's actually used for the windscreen which I'm assuming you got with the car. When the windscreen is installed, it attaches to those brackets located underneath the rear headrests. So don't throw it away unless you don't want to use the windscreen...and if you don't want the windscreen, I would be happy to take it off your hands, lol!

Strad2004, that's brilliant, thanks so much.
Yes, I have the windscreen and used it a few times. It doesn't make the dramatic difference it did with my 04 BMW 325CIc.
Without the windscreen on the BMW and the top down, my wife hated it. With Lex, even without the windscreen up, its no problem unless you are on the freeway.
One thing about the screen, there is no where to put it with the roof down, it will just about cram in the trunk, but you can't slide it under the roll out cover-deliberate I'm sure. Its also a bit wimpy compared with the BMW, its plastic and looks like it could
I bought my IS used and this was in the trunk, I assume its not a standard option?
Just went out to check the car and I had it backwards;-(
Glad I didn't chuck it away-I only have one, might get the other, can't be too much money can it-yea right, but cheaper than the $500ish screen.

The windscreen folds up into quarters. It also came with a bag for storage. Once you fold it up, it stores easily in the trunk.

Yangster, I got mine quartered and in its bag, but with roof down it won't go flat-or under the roll out cover. Assume Lex think if roof is down, windscreen will be up, so not a big deal.
Or, am I missing something here?

I think you hit it on the head. I believe Lexus' thinking is that if you have the roof down, you'll be using the windscreen. If you don't want to use it, you can put it on the back seat, on the floor behind the seat or leave it in the garage.

Sorry to respond to an old post. I found that the folded wind screen does fit in the trunk (with the "window shade" in place) as my picture shows...
Folded wind screen in trunk
I don't have the clip(s) shown above but the tabs on the screen are snug between the rear seats and their headrests.

Part number
Judging by the photo attached, the part number for the mystery item is: PT933-53100-HR
(turns out I have one lurking on my driver's side head rest so I need another)
. Update: received the above today from a Nor Cal Lexus dealer via eBay. While the label says left and right hand, I can't identify anything on the part or the one original I have that would indicate it is specific to a side if you find only one on eBay.
