Default What does the Toyota 3.5 liter V6 have in common with the IS350 V6?

Newbie to the Lexus world. I am looking at buying a IS 350 F-sport. I currently own a Toyota Venza with a 3.5 liter V6. It's an ok engine but I wouldn't call it smooth. I was wondering what it had in common with the Lexus V6? I know they are rated at different hp.

The Lexus 3.5L is so smooth. It has direct injection and port injection. Much better than the Toyota 3.5L. I've driven the Toyota a ton too.

Other than the technical differences, the Lexus 3.5 feels a lot more refined. I've driven the Aurion 3.5 V6.

This SAE article provides a good breakdown of the 2GR-FSE and how it differs from the 2GR-FE.

It was a very advanced motor for its time as it was the first production engine which incorporated both a port injection and direct injection fuel system.

2017 Highlander and 2016 Tacoma are using the new "Lexus" 3.5 engine. I'm sure the Sienna, Camry, and others will adopt within few years.

My 2015 Sienna is very loud and jerky under acceleration where as my 2014 IS350 is smooth as a butter at any rpm.

The S is 2gr-fse stands for 'superior' becuz of its port and direct injection. Its technology and engineering are still considered relevant in automotive becuz the only way other automakers were able to acheive better mpg and power is through turbos. Many cars still only use one or the other because of cost and complexity.

Its probably the best you can get out of an NA v6 which is why they saw no need to replace it.

It's a good motor. However I would gladly trade some peak HP for better grunt in the lower mid-range, where it would be used far more often in normal driving.
