How do you know if the rotors wear out? because my dealer just replaced the pads and not the rotor?

Mine started to squeak at about 14k if i'm not mistaken. But I didn't expect such an early brake job. Crazily, i had to take it to the dealer because it felt like there was something stuck inside there somewhere. But it turns out my brakes went metal to metal with the rotor
Wow...
Maybe looking up for alternative brake options would be a better long term solution....

You sure you need rotors? Never hurts to use them as you got a great deal but I didn't need them.

Yeah it's better to replace the rotors. They are pretty close to min spec after you go through one set of OEM pads.

When did Toyota start using rotors that need to be replaced with every brake job? My 1991 MR2 only went through 1 set of rotors (and those were front only) in 120K miles.

It's been the same for my 2IS, since 2006.

Mmmmm. I trust my brake guy. Besides he's a business man who'd push new rotors if there was a need AND he said I didn't need them.

Besides I hate the hassle of having to bring it somewhere and getting resurfaced

Thank god mines is a lease and i'll be returning before it gets to that point. That's pretty ridiculous that that is the brake change interval.

It only squeaks at the first few times of applying the brake (usually when I back out from the garage), and disappears in regular driving.

I guess brake wear out fairly quickly on 3IS...

And like Taideee said, if $300 is your total cost, then it's not too bad.
Same story here. I just hit 12k miles and my brakes squeak the first couple times I hit the pedal, then are fine after that.

I also get a bit of a squeak when I first start the car and back out of the garage, but never hear it otherwise. It has been doing that since it was only a few months old, but the cold/winter seems to make it worse.

I have 18k miles on mine now, and my pads are still reading almost brand new per my 15k mile maintenance and recent state inspection, so I guess I'm the outlier here. I drive almost all highway though and was super careful to brake gently while breaking them in when the car was brand new so as not to cause uneven wear.

i had my brakes replaced at around 17k miles. dealership told me i needed new rotors and pads and quoted me $800. i said **** that, so i went and bought my own brakes and did everything myself for a quarter of the price

i went with stoptech slotted rotors and their street pads, stops a lot better and a lot less brake dust!!
