Dealer Installed Remote Start on my 2014 IS350 W/Nav - Not happy
Hello,
For Christmas this year, my wife got me remote start for my 2014 IS350 F-Sport w/Nav. I havent been on the forurms in awhile and from last I checked it was not available at least from Lexus and it seemed like if I had it done somewhere else it would cause problems or interfere with Safety Connect system.
She knew I wanted it awhile ago and called my My local dealer here in Chicago, they told her that it was just made available for the 2014's and gave her a few options.
1. Standard Remote start install (200 foot range) $695.00
2. One Button 2-Way Remote Start install (2000-2500 ft range) $995
I took it in yesterday to have the 2-way installed, seeing that my car is out of sight and knowing that it started is a nice feature. They installed a VIPER system with a small quarter size remote that beeps and lights up to confirm the car started. I did not even expect this to be aftermarket parts, since my wife did the research I assumed since I was having this dealer installed it would be Lexus parts.. Guess not..
I picked up the car last night and the "technology delivery specialist" was showing me how to use the system and she really had no idea what she was doing. They wrote down how to enter the car by clicking the remote button again and then pushing the start button twice before I touched the brakes. This did not work. The car starts fine, but then it shuts off no matter what I do when the doors are opened. She had no idea either and then tells me this is just how it works.. To me spending $1,000 on a remote start and then having to start the car twice is stupid. Another thing I notice is the seat heaters dont work until I actually sit in the car. Is this normal?
I read through a bunch of threads but all the info is different.. Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

I recall reading in the manual that this is a security feature. I have a '15 IS and if I use the remote start through Enform, the engine will shut off as soon as I unlock the car using the door handle. It's normal behavior.

It's a security feature standard on many (most?) remote starts.
The seats only warm up when they detect someone sitting on them. If you turn on your passenger seat with no one on it, it won't heat up either. Also very standard.

It's called Secure Takeover and Lexus doesn't have this feature, at least on the IS.
You guys should have done a little more research. Remote start can be install using iDatalink ADS ALCA module and programing it to your OEM key fob for around $400 or less. Check out the link below with video.

If the heated seats are set to timer mode, they will turn on automatically when the temperature is below a certain level. I forget the exact temperature..but this function works during remote start as well.

The turning off for security reasons is the dumbest argument ever.
Leave the car running like ever remote start system since the dawn of time. There is no security issue. The door needs to be locked to start it and you can't put it in drive without touching the brake, which shuts the car down.

Even if someone got into the car without opening a door as soon as they press the brake pedal or shift out of park the engine shuts off anyway. So technically you can remote start the car with someone sitting in it and it still won't let you drive anywhere.

Right! Again, it's all about safety! Thanks Lexus
