I don't see how they can do this without giving the IS350 a 30 to 40 hp bump. The torquey 2.0T will bring the bottom end model way too close to the current 350 in performance.

not really, the NX Is rated at 235hp and 250 torque. They can bump it to 250 hp but the 350 is still much stronger at 306 hp. 350 engine has a much stronger high end. 200t is a good replacement for the 250 engine. Whenever the new 350 engine comes out, probably will get atkinson cycle and a small power bump.

Look at the performance of the 328i. It's almost as fast as the IS350. It's all about the strong torque curve.

The 2.0T has a much broader torque curve and will feel stronger driven back to back on a typical city driving test drive. It would steal sales from the current 350.

If they start selling the 2.0T paired with a 6-Speed MT, I would gladly trade my 350 F-Sport for one of those in an instant. As stated by others, the power and torque bands on the turbo would be way fatter and imagine the tuning capabilities! For $1K, you could put in a downpipe with a racing cat and an accessport (COBB would be all over this if Toyota/Lexus make the 2.0T more mainstream across their product lines) good for another 50+ HP/FT-LBS.
I had my previous Subaru Legacy Spec.B up to about 310 HP and 330 FT-LBS at the crank with just a downpipe and stage-2 tune from my accessport. That is up from 250 and 250 stock all for around $1K!

Old 335i was turbo and it was in the shop all the time. When BMW was new to turbo in the 3, those 07-08 335i models mostly had serious reliability issues. Think I would want to see any IS turbo engine prove itself first over time before buying.
