Well, you sir aren't the Norm. When I first met my GF, she didn't know anything about cars - She bought a Mercedes with the MB-Tex and she asked why is my Leather so rubbery...? LOL I told her it wasn't leather.. UGHH so Not everyone has the same views. Though you might think you got non-leather because of your kids, (thats great for you) but most people who buys a luxury car want REAL Leather in there $50K plus car. I personally think you're getting ripped off if a car didn't come with fine leather and you paid $70K but thats my opinion..

Yeah--it's just one of those things that people just aren't willing to grasp.

Leather does not equate to luxury or quality in every case. It's perception pure and simple.

I think we'll see less leather as the world become more eco-aware and eco-friendly. I personally stopped eating red meat about a year ago when for some reason the face of sad cow popped into my head as I was about to bite into a burger. If I don't eat red meat then I can't justify leather. The hypocrisy of the Prius is that they offer it with leather -- so much for sustainability.

Acura was a leader in the simplicity in buying movement. For years you could only get a TL one way -- no options. Now they offer 3 option groups but no picking and choosing individual options. That is efficient and it must be an appealing way to make cars.

Sounds like you have eco-friendly and animal rights/cruelty mixed up. I highly doubt the manufacturing of plastic is more eco-friendly than a cow dying. One is a man made product involving the use of chemicals, the other would have happened with our without our help, albeit a little later on in life.
