backup camera not working after nav hack
Hi all,
Yes I have searched and read through all the other topics on this, but cant find a single person who has ever come back to say what eventually fixed the issue.
I completed the nav hack (joined loom-side pink from j50 to white on p1, and grounded red from j50 on nav side) - that all works well, but like quite a few others, i noticed the backup camera now does not work.
Initially it did work once, briefly right after i started the car (so don't think anything is really 'broken'), but is now just black. the guide lines still work but the image is just blank.
I have tried putting it back to stock and still same issue.
Any ideas before I have to call an auto electrician? This is a 2006 w/ Mark Levinson from Japan.
Thanks!
edit:
some others with the same issue but no conclusive answers

I don't know anything specifically about this mod, but if it came on and worked for a second, then stopped working and is still not working after going back to stock, it most likely means something got damaged.

Hmm interesting, I kinda thought the opposite. When it was working, it visually degraded pretty quickly (within a couple of seconds) as if i was literally watching it while a wire come loose, I just cant figure out where it is plugged into. From TIS docs I think it is on J51 connector, but I'm looking at them for the first time so can't be entirely sure.
If I could figure out where its actually going to I could do a continuity test to see if there is a faulty cable somewhere. It just seems odd that multiple other people have had the exact same issue while performing this mod. It'd be good to solve or find out what happened just so other people can avoid it.

fizzling out can also mean something shorted, slow blow rather than a fast blow.

Good news, after a couple of beers for lunch and another good look I realised that the white wire on my p1 connector is definitely not what I thought it was - and I'm guessing that the other people who had this problem also made the same mistake (it's the only white wire on that connector for me)
Not sure why it didn't work the first time I reconnected the cable, but it is now.
Anyway since I can't use navigation from this Japanese model in New Zealand, I probably only ever needed to cut the pink wire and ground the red?
Which brings me to another question maybe best asked in a separate thread - how can I use the navigation video input for something else? A beatsonic avc1?
