What vin's have carbon build up issues?
Hi,
I am new to the forums.
I am looking at a 2008 is250 RWD this weekend. I found a PDF that shows the range for VINS that could potentially have the carbon build up issues. This PDF only refers to vins with "BF" in them but the car i am looking at has BK in the vin. Are vins with BK exempt from this issue?
What is the difference between BF and BK in the vins?
Thanks for your help, hope i can haul one in this weekend!

My 08 IS250 had the campaign done and I have a "BK" vin. I'm pretty sure its open to any second gen IS250. Should be 9 year unlimited millage If I'm not mistaking.

From what I've read, the issue is with the direct injection system that is employed in the is250. In a direct injection system fuel is injected directly into the cylinders at a high pressure below the intake valves.
Fuel injection systems operate at extremely high pressures and carburetors operate at lower pressures.
In a none direct injection system (regular fuel injection) the fuel and its' detergents "washes" the intake valves as it is sprayed at an extremely high pressure so that the fuel cleans the intake valves as it swirls its way past them on its' way to the cylinder which effectively mitigates carbon build up on the valves and its' ensuing expenses and headaches.
In a carbureted system the fuel washes the intake valves as described above but at a much lower pressure.
In the is350 there is direct injection of fuel straight into the cylinders below the intake valves but there is an additional fuel injector mounted above the intake valves that "washes" and mitigates carbon build up as described above.

the last 7 of the VIN ends with 5050882, does this mean this engine falls into the range that could have the carbon build up issue?

All IS250's could have the carbon issue. I'm pretty sure even the new 2015 IS250 has the same engine. Gonna be pretty interesting to see when they start to kunk up.

i thought ive seen vins over that range but i could be wrong. Thanks for info. Either way, i think i read there is a 9 year warranty with unlimited miles, so i will still have about 2-3 years of warranty. Im excited! If i purchase, anyone care to see more stock lexus pictures?
