Oil Changes for 2008 IS 250
Received car from relative under unfortunate circumstances. Don't have an owner's manual in glove. Told car should have standard oil change every 5,000 miles as synthetics for up to 10,00 didn't come in until 2010-11.
Is that the consensus? When I used to have other standard oil vehicles I used to change them every 3,000 miles.

That is actually not stated in the owner's manual. The oil grade recommended is ILSAC multi-grade engine oil and 5W-30 is the recommended oil viscosity. It's 5K regardless of conventional or synthetic.
Personally, I've only ran Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic and changed it every 3k miles. Only recently have I started changing it every 5K miles. I submitted a sample of my recent oil change and the report said at 5K miles the oil was still good and I could run it to 7K and retest. If you want to play it safe, 5K is fine regardless of the type of oil. That's just my $0.02.
FYI My car is a 2008 IS250.

Pole Position
5w-30 at 8k is pretty much the best ratio.
New oil does not equal best. Optimal oil is close to 1k mile.
I use mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30. Use any brand you like but I highly recommend you stick to 5w-30. But whichever brand you use, stick to that brand and viscosity in the future oil changes.

Got an 07 IS250 and have done alot of research
regarding oil, gasoline, and preventing CBU
Regarding oil:
1) Most ppl recommend a low NOACK (low volatility) oil.
2) Preferably, but not always, synthetic
3) I would go with an oil like: Pennzoil Platinum, Amsoil, Redline, and there are others
4) I would not try to extend OCI's too much even with these oils I mentioned in #3.
5) My UOA on my IS showed good results with PP, but shouldn't go over 6K miles
6) DI engines can produce alot of CBU and a pretty dirty engine oil, so don't be surprised if you pull the dipstick and your oil is dark at say 3k...that means the oil is working and don't change it
Regarding gasoline:
1) Top tier gasoline
2) Premium
3) Use a fuel system additive with PEA in it about 1x per OCI (Gumout, Redline, and Chevron Techroline have it)
Other things:
1) Italian tune up
2) Limit stop and go driving and not getting your engine up operating temp
3) Take some long trips in your car
4) Enjoy your ride, it handles well and accelerates OK..plus it gets good MPG

Gotta disagree w/XSV. The manual Warranty & Service Guide on page 46 and onward states oil s/b changed every 5K or 6 mos. I know my 08 notifies me when 5k is coming up to change oil

Speaking of oil change I've been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance Synthetic Oil , but I see Castrol GTX Magnatec Synthetic Oil is cheaper but has good rating, any input on this?
