Windshield Molding Cracking and Chipping Away. Anyone else have this problem? Pics
I was looking closely at my car the other day and noticed cracking and chipping of the molding around the windshield. I've included 3 pics..1 with an overview and 2 closeups. I didn't look at the other side, but assume it is the same.
I'm very disappointed in this considering I spent $36K on this car, purchased in Sept '07, and its garaged every night. My 5 year old Accord which sits outside everyday/night in the SoCal sun doesn't have this problem so I'm thinking WTF
Questions...
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it a known issue, TSB, etc..?
What should I expect at the dealer?
If they replace it will it be with the same subpar materials that will crack again?
Anything else?
Thanks guys/gals

I actually just noticed that starting to happen to my car too towards the bottom of the windshield. I haven't really looked at the top. Although my car sits outside all the time. You're right though, my old Integra sat outside for over 10 years and it never had this problem.

It looks like the car has been continually washed with extremely harsh detergent, which dried them out. It should be covered under warranty but you might want to be careful of the kind of soap you use. Don't use dish washing liquid, especially if your car is parked in the sun all day. I learned my lesson the hard way when it comes to dish soap.

I sure hope the Sun doesn't have this much effect after only 18 months. I use Zaino Z7 car wash. I even periodically put 303 Aerospace protectant (SPF40) on my exterior trim.

Heck I am in Las Vegas where it is very common to have daytime highs in the 110-112 degree range. If it is going to happen to any car it is going to happen to mine. 1 summer down maybe 1 or 2 more left before the car becomes a memory anyways.
