A 2nd Hit and Run happened to my F-Sport.
Its been a bad year so far for my F-Sport
I'm driving down the street and the guy ahead & to the left of me switches lanes and swideswipes my car at the same time.
Damage :
I pull back for a second thinking hes going to stop, he doesnt slow down so I speed up and honk my horn, again he doesn't stop so I take down his tag #, pull over and call the cops. You would think everything would be solved at this point....
Bad news is that the license plate is out of Tennessee and Geico and the Florida Highway Patrol says the tag isn't insured or registered to anyone so I cant get my repair paid for . HOW CAN THAT BE? I called the Tennessee DMV & Highway Patrol and they are telling me that the FHP should have the resources to contact the Tennessee DMVs to get the registration/owner info. I called the specific trooper who made the report and he says all the info Geico has is what he can get. I think hes just being a lazy bastard. I mean a tag has to be registered to SOMEBODY right?
Any advice on what action to take? Any websites where I can run his tag? : F8865N

tag might've been expired so that way its not registered? I don't think the DMV would release that information to non law enforcement either..

Your insurance company will pay to repair...right? Since they would rather the other person or their ins company pay, they (your ins) should go after the other person. It is in your ins company's best interest to do so... Now that being said, there is only so much they can do when the other person is uninsured, even if they find out who they are. They will send threatening letters, but no one is going to track them down and arrest them... Sucks I know

Thanks guys for all the advice
Seems like Geico was only running the tag through the Florida DMV and not the Tennessee DMVs, they told me they contacted the TN Geico chapters to run the tag and maybe even drive to local DMV to get the tag/registration info. Info should be here by Friday, hopefully they can get the scumbag.
