Bad Morning
I just recently got a 08 Lexus IS350 w/ sport package. I still have the paper plates on the car.
I was getting gas this morning and decided to get the car wash. I went through and it stops, leaving nothing but foam on the car. So I go in and tell the ladies and they give me another number so I can go through again.
2nd time in the stupid thing hits my car It is one of those touchless car washes. I stopped when it said to stop and it still hits the front of my car. POS thing works fine for the huge SUV that went in before me but can't sense where my car is located? Maybe my car is just so awesome it cannot sense it. I dunno, I might be a bit bias though.
Needless to say I was a bit upset, once again left with the foam on my car. I just pulled out onto the road and sped off to blow all of the foam off my car.
Anyone else have a problem with those car washes? I am just going to hit up the detail shop on my way home.

HAND WASH ONLY. You were smart enough to choose a LEXUS, but you lose major points for taking it through a car wash. HAND WASH ONLY!

The detail shop I am bringing it to does hand wash only.
I refuse to use the car washes with the brushes, those are just brutal. This place I used for my last car and always worked great, it was nice to knock the bird ***** off the hood.
I have to agree though hand was only for this ride. That was just painful to watch, luckly it knew it hit my car and stopped. No damage or marks left on the car which is good.

No gas station hand washes!! Lexus dealership car washes, maybe ok but just as bad. It's just asking for swirls!!!
Dedicated hand wash shops only like everyone else has said.
On the side: I heard one of the automatic cash washes at a gas station had sheered off the shark fin off an IS before!! Opps!, that must of done a lot of damage.

goto autogeek.net and buy yourself some legit stuff to take better care of your car.
I use wolfgang products for the exterior as far as wax, polish, sealant, finishing glaze, swirl remover, and soap.
Simple Green for cleaning the wheels, and Meguires tire gel and Invisiglass for the windows.
For the interior I use 303 aero space for the dash, lexol leather cleaner and lexol leather conditioner for the seats.

For the Glass I use the Foamspray that I got from a Safelite installer. It actually works really well and does not affect window tint. Being that I live in TX I am calling them a lot to fix my windshield so I get a couple cans from the instaler every time they come out.
@Sango that is crazy, sometimes those car washes are a little over powered.
I try to handwash but living in Apartment sucks for that. Hence why I use a detail shop that just hand washes.
I'll try the autogeek.net site, right now I am looking at another 10k for parts and audio. Sucks!!!! Insurance company really screwed me over on this deal.

I agree with everyone else, hand wash only. I will use them occasionally for the wife's 4 Runner though :-). If you have to use them, use a cloth car wash... never a "touchless"! The foam/soap that a touchless carwash uses has an acid base that is terrible for your finish especially plastic parts.

I took my truck through a car wash once - brand new 36k dollar truck - had a free wash at this place so I used it. Got on the track, started going thru (large car wash where multiple cars roll thru) and all of a sudden it lurched off the track. The back wheels were still on, so the track was pushing the car and repeatedly ramming it into a post. Meanwhile, the car behind me was still on the track which started ramming me from the rear. All said and done, the car wash caused 4k in damage.
