HELP! Check Engine Check VSC
#16
Okay, sorry to beat a dead horse here, but this same exact thing happened to me just 30 min. ago while trying to leave the gym. My IS350 actually would not start after several cranks. I would have the brake pressed and push the engine start button but all I would hear is about 3 seconds of "electrical clicking". All my dash had was CHECK VSC and the check engine and stability control icons were lit up.
After several attempts, my car finally started up. I'm safe at home now, but I'm wondering if something as simple as a loose gas cap would cause my car to not start.
Just looking for some last second advice before I bring my car to the Lexus dealership!

okay, funny thing is now, check engine light is now OFF, and everything looks normal.
i did fiddle with my gas cap, even though i THINK it was screwed on adequately. or maybe it wasn't, i don't know, but everything is now back to normal. will report back if engine start up gives me problems again..

Hi all,
I have the same issue (Check VCS / Engine / Traction Off) on my 2006 GS 430.
I just did an OBD scan, which resulted in: P0455 & P0456 trouble codes.
Based on what I have read, I hope this is just an issue with my gas cap. The original one did seem to come off easy with 1/4 of a turn. I replaced the gas cap with a generic brand that fits my car. Its now been 3 days and the lights are still on.
Do you think its necessary to buy a new Lexus OEM gas cap? The OEM one is $50 CAD, but I cheaped out and bought the generic brand from an auto parts store for $15.
Lexus dealer obviously recommended getting OEM and they said it would take a week to clear the warning lights. I am trying to solve this issue asap as I am currently trying to sell the car.
Should I just buy the OEM gas cap and wait up to a week, or do you think the generic gas cap should be fine and I just need to be more patient?
Here is a pic of the OBD - not sure if both codes apply to me or just the bottom highlighted one.
Thanks for your advice.

If you are back by the parts store that read the codes for you, have them hook up the tool again and clear them for you. Or just wait a few more days (days where you don't drive the car, or days that you only make only short trips < 15 minutes don't count). You could also disconnect the battery for a few minutes, but I don't know enough about the GS to know what kind of presets (e.g. seat and mirror memory) you might lose.
