Re-using hose clips
I'm planning to do my waterpump soon, and re-using the hose clips is a bit concerning. Is it safe to re-use the clips? mine are still stock clips over 6 years old. How do you know if the clip has securely fastened the hose? In the past i once re-used a clip and pulling on the hose with medium force cause the hose the come off so got me concerned as to how secure re-using the clip is.
Is there a technique or anything to it? when using a plier to press it back, should i retain it in the grooves just like the way the clips are shipped?

On Autoweek over the weekend, their fixit guy, Pat Goss, said to ALWAYS reuse the factory hose clamps. His logic was that the worm gear type put a lot of pressure on one spot on today's plastic radiator pipes and would eventually crack the plastic. This would lead to the hose popping off and complete loss of coolant.

I put a new radiator in my sisters accord and used new worm clamps and they all leaked even after tightening so I ended up switching it to the old clips and no problem. So I'm assuming the OEM clips are better than aftermarket if you can I'd reuse them.
