Need Help, I don't know how this happened...
So friday night I was driving, I was on a local road going about 25mph and I hear all this noise from my right rear wheel. So I pull over and to find out I have a flat. I look around and can't see any debris on the road or any potholes. So I assume its a nail but while putting on the spare I see there is a hole in the rim (Five Axis S5:F). So I look on the tire and can't find a nail or a hole, just a little piece of the rubber came off. So somehow the rim has a big whole and to top it off the broken piece of rim went through my rear bumper making a crack. Any thoughts? Has this ever happened to anyone? Could it be a defective rim or tire? I've only had it for less than 6 months. Its always properly inflated and never over inflated.

There is just a little chunk of the tire missing but couldn't find a hole, and I've rolled the tire around and cant hear anything inside. My first guess was something punctured it, but wouldn't that leave a hole in the tire? 235/40/18 is the tire size =(

Can you push your finger into the tire through that thing? or did it not penetrate the tire?
From the look of the rim damage, it seems either something came through and blasted through it, or the rim has a defect around that area and an sudden increase in pressure from someone hitting the tire around that area popped it.
If you get a high enough compress air to hit a peice of metal like that, you will get similar damages.

Looks like a rifle bullet, if you ask me. The rim is repairable. Most cities have alloy rim repair centers. They weld the hole and if necessary machine and repaint the rim, although in your case that should not be an issue. The cost should be around $120 or so. The tire itself may be repairable depending on the size of the damage, but you may want to check if it is still under warranty.

Seeing that you said the rim is aftermarket, how was the TPMS installed (if you did)? If you drilled or used those straight TPMS adapters it could have caused the hole when you ran something over. BUT then again u said you didn't hear anything after rolling it around... odd.
More then likely, something metal went through the wheel and tire.

boom headshot. really does look like someone shot at it. unless you ran over something big and long and it shot out after you ran over it...screwdriver? something similar happened to my car, a rock managed to make its way in between the spokes...so i got a nice gash. a wheel spinnin at 80 doesnt like a rock to get tossed in there.
